THE HANDS THAT FEED US

A quiet portrait of rural labour, resilience and everyday life in Bengal’s fields.

About this series

Photographer’s note

The Hands That Feed Us is a quiet observation of agricultural life in rural Bengal. In the early morning mist, farmers enter the fields and begin their daily work—planting, carrying, tending and harvesting. Their movements are simple, repetitive and deeply familiar, shaped by years of working with the land. I wanted to photograph these people beyond the usual image of rural hardship. Instead, this series looks at dignity, resilience, character and the human relationship with the land. The fog, empty fields and muted landscapes create a sense of stillness, while the farmers' faces and gestures bring the human story forward. These photographs are a tribute to the people whose everyday labour quietly sustains our lives. — Anjan Ghosh
